36th Annual Pipestem Pumpkin Run is Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013

PIPESTEM, W.Va. – A combination of foot races, a walk and a fun run with a Halloween theme is being offered at Pipestem Resort State Park Saturday, Oct. 26. The 36th annual Pumpkin Run includes a 5-K run, a 10-K run, a 5-K walk and a Fun Run.

The Pumpkin Run is organized by the Southern West Virginia Road Runners Club (SWVRRC). Races begin at 10 a.m. with the exception of the Fun Run, which starts at 11 a.m., and all start at the Canyon Rim Center. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Mountaineer Room. There is ample parking and there is no entry fee to Pipestem Resort State Park.

“Runners are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes,” said Kim Hawkins, activities coordinator at Pipestem Resort. Judging is at the finish line and three prizes will be awarded. “There’s nothing better than the possibility of a headless horseman, a zombie and a pumpkin sprinting at the finish. It all depends on creative thinking by runners.”

There are 13 age divisions for the 5-K and the 10-K runs. Trophies are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers and to the top three in each age division. The 5-K walk trophies are awarded to the top five males and top five females. Ribbons are awarded to all Fun Run youth.

The race fee is $15 for SWVRRC members who pre-register and $20 on race day. Participants who are not SWVRRC members are welcome to participate. Non-member registration fees are $20 for early registration and $25 on race day. T-shirts go to the first 100 fee-based registrations. The youth Fun Run is free. Refreshments are on site.
