West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) food safety regulatory officers are checking grocery freezers in the state following a recall of products containing frozen peas, according to Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass.
Recalled product was found Monday at the Moorefield Walmart. A WVDA regulatory officer found Great Value 12-ounce steamable sweet peas in stock. Those items were removed from freezers.
“Consumers should exercise extra caution with frozen peas and vegetable medleys containing frozen peas,” said Commissioner Douglass. “The Department’s regulatory officers have been notified of this recall, and are checking stores for recalled product. However, consumers should not be complacent. They should check their freezers to see it they have any vegetables subject to this recall.”
WVDA inspectors routinely inspect grocery stores throughout the state to check: dates on egg, dairy and ready-to-eat meat products; to grade eggs; collect meat and dairy samples; check cooler temperatures and investigate consumer complaints.
