Charleston, W.Va. – Officials with the Division of Forestry have announced two winners in the 2011 West Virginia Arbor Day Poster Contest. Fourth-grade student Lillian Rhoads of Lumberport Elementary in Harrison County and fifth-grade student Tori Carr of Kingwood Elementary in Preston County took top honors for their artwork supporting the contest’s theme, “What Tree Is It?”
Award ceremonies will be conducted at each of the winners’ schools where trees will be planted in their honor. In addition, the winning students each will receive a $50 U.S. Savings Bond from the West Virginia Forestry Association. Scheduling for those ceremonies is underway.
The West Virginia Arbor Day Poster Contest was open to all public, private and home-schooled fourth-grade and fifth-grade students in the state.
