Bike Rentals Added to Outdoor Experience at Pipestem State Park

8/4/2010

PIPESTEM, W.Va. – Guests visiting Pipestem Resort State Park beginning this month will discover they have yet another option for outdoor fun – bicycle rentals.

“Pipestem is the ultimate place to find outdoor options,” said Pipestem Supt. Dave Caplinger. “With the existing ‘Youth With Drive Golf Program’ and two golf courses, extensive hiking trails, horseback riding, swimming, miniature golf, fishing and in the winter cross country skiing and sledding, we had to ask ourselves what was missing. And the answer came from our visitors: bikes.”

Beginning in August, a contractual agreement with Greenbrier Outfitters of White Sulphur Springs makes bicycle rentals possible at this Summers county vacation destination. Available for rent at McKeever Lodge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the bikes feature Gary Fisher full suspension mountain bikes, front suspension mountain bikes and comfort series, as well as a good selection of kids’ bikes, tag-along trailers and strollers. Additionally, all safety equipment, including helmets, is available with rentals.

“We’re looking forward to getting guest comments and seeing how popular the bikes will be,” said Caplinger. “We anticipate some very nice late summer into winter biking weather and hope this new addition to ‘things to do’ at Pipestem keeps individuals and families outdoors and energized.”

Many of Pipestem’s trails are open to mountain biking. The aerial tramway accommodates bike transport to Mountain Creek for mountain biking opportunities in that section of the park and trails.
