DAVIS, W.Va. – It is called “building a better vacation” on the Canaan Resort website. The removal of structures and the rebuilding and renovation of the lodge complex at Canaan Valley Resort is also creating new opportunities for retreats and getaways during the rebuilding phase.
“Yes, there is construction occurring at the lodge, but that just opens new opportunities for savings for our guests,” said Dave Bostic, General Manager at the resort. “We took some sage advice from the superintendent at Twin Falls State Park. During the recent Twin Falls lodge renovation and rebuilding, the staff invited and encouraged visitors and guests to be part of the process.”
That same can-do attitude is part of the Canaan Valley renovation, resulting in reduced rates to encourage overnight stays as well as day use. The park improvement project is important to the Tucker County economy. “Both Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls state parks are major attractions recognized nationwide and consequently draw visitors and travel dollars into the region,” said Robert Gilligan, park superintendent. Canaan Valley Resort and Blackwater Falls state parks attract three-quarters of a million visitors annually.
Some current enticements to draw guests, park visitors, and area residents to Canaan Valley Resort as part of building a better vacation include:
The Hickory Room is open from 7 – 11 a.m. for breakfast; full lunch service has been returned to 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., and dinner hours are 5 - 9 p.m. The Café Hours are 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. On Sundays there is an a la carte brunch menu that guests have suggested and the resort is honoring. The lounge is open 5 - 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and also during the week at varying hours. The Pro Grill is open 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. every day. “It’s good to have positive feedback from guests,” said Bostic. “Some of our best packages and dining options have been a result of suggestions.”
A
Labor Day Weekend Golf Package, from Sept. 2-5, is two nights’ lodging, two days’ 18-hole greens fee with shared cart, and daily breakfast at $191 per person based on double occupancy. Golf is unlimited play on this package when paying for cart rental for additional rounds. Reservations are required. Expanded evening golf hours and twilight rates are being developed. Call the park for details.
Individuals just wanting to enjoy a night or two at Canaan Valley at the beginning of
fall foliage should take advantage of a $69 room rate offered midweek and for the Labor Day holiday weekend for double or queen room arrangements. From Aug. 15 – Labor Day, Sept. 5, the room rates are reduced for one or more nights, with $74 discount weekends included. “It’s one of our ‘Hard Hat Discounts’ as we rebuild Canaan,” said Bostic.
Other special rates at Canaan Valley include
50 percent off campsites for two or more nights, Sunday- Thursday Sept. 6 - 30. Other packages, including early bird ski packages, are posted online at
