Beckley, W.Va. - The West Virginia Division of Forestry (DOF) will conduct a public tour at Cabwaylingo State Forest on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010. This is an informational tour for the public to learn about plans for a prescribed timber harvest in the northern end of the forest.
“The proposed project at Cabwaylingo State Forest is designed to provide more diverse wildlife habitat and forest growth potential,” said State Lands Manager Barbara Breshock. “The tour will give the public an opportunity to see the area, and afterward attendees may submit comments on the proposed project.”
The tour begins at 10 a.m.; participants should arrive at the Cabwaylingo State Forest office prior to 10 a.m. Breshock encourages anyone attending to bring substantial footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather, snacks and water. A hike of .5 to 1 mile on uneven ground in the woods is planned. There are no trails along this route, although some old roads are involved, and there are some hills along the tour path.
For more information about the tour, contact Barbara Breshock at the Beckley Regional Office at 304.256.6775 or via e-mail, Barbara.A.Breshock@wv.gov.
If you are planning to attend, please notify Breshock so that she can arrange enough transportation for all attendees.
