Colleen Anderson Hosts Women’s Writing Weekend at Tygart Lake November 19-21

11/10/2010

Grafton, W.Va. – Tygart Lake State Park will host the 4th annual weekend for women who express themselves in writing Nov. 19-21. Writer Colleen Anderson will conduct Women’s Writing Weekend, which will include workshop sessions that are appropriate for beginners as well as practiced writers. Anderson says “You’ll learn that your own memories and experiences are the raw material for art — and you’ll practice with the tools that can make your writing, in any form, more vivid.”

The workshop begins Friday, Nov. 19 with a “Getting to Know You” introduction and short writing exercise to get attendees in the creative mode, according to Stephanie Bailey, Tygart Lake Activities Coordinator. Saturday morning is a rough draft writing session and includes delving into the storehouses of memory and discovery of the five senses. The afternoon concentrates on revising and tightening the language and shaping the narrative. Saturday evening includes a “wine and cheese reading” and a time to listen and share stories, including some of Anderson’s. The workshop concludes Sunday with additional writing topics.

The workshop is affordably priced at about $200 per person, based on two writers sharing a room, or $276 for a private room. The package includes two nights lodging and all meals and refreshment breaks in addition to the workshop sessions. The workshop without lodging costs $123.
