GREEN BANK, W.Va. – New for 2013, and just in time for its 50th anniversary, company houses rentals may be reserved at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park through a new online service. Online reservations to rent company houses are being taken now, but reservations also continue to be taken by telephone.
“There are 20 of the company houses in town that have been renovated as vacation houses,” said Cass Supt. Rob Sovine. “Cass has rented these homes for many years both in the summer and winter months. Cass is near Snowshoe Ski Resort and is popular with winter recreationists, but now we’re gearing up for the spring and summer seasons with the trains beginning operations May 24.”
The online reservation system has been in the works for about two years and included installation of additional communication lines, computers, program purchase and programming, staff training, and associated support services, all of which came to a completion in April.
“Moving from a paper-based reservation system to a computer database and online system and having a 50th anniversary in the same year are milestones,” said Sovine.
Tickets to ride the train at Cass Scenic Railroad are not available online, but remain available by calling the park by telephone.
Cass Scenic Railroad joins eight other state-operated parks with online services. Parks with lodges that also have cabins with available online reservation services include Pipestem, Twin Falls, and Cacapon resorts; and Chief Logan, Hawks Nest, North Bend, Tygart Lake and Blackwater Falls state parks.
