The West Virginia Department of Agriculture’s (WVDA) phone lines were restored Wednesday morning and are now fully operational. The outage occurred when thieves cut and stole wires running to WVDA headquarters near Guthrie, about 10 miles north of Charleston Monday evening. The Department’s website and e-mail were also inaccessible to the public.
The theft occurred in the woods near the complex – not on WVDA property. Despite the problems connecting with the outside world, internal phones and e-mail remained operational and the WVDA continued its regular work schedule.
“We realize how vital outside communication is for the WVDA and appreciate both Verizon Business Services and Frontier Communications for their assistance and cooperation in restoring services in such a timely manner,” Commissioner Douglass said.
During the outage, all calls were rerouted to WVDA staff cell phones noted Commissioner Douglass.
