 Evening cruises aboard the Island Belle to Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park offer summer heat relief

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - In the cool of the evening, visitors to Parkersburg, W.Va., will find a sternwheeler waiting to depart for a historical island. Summer events at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park begin in the evenings aboard the Island Belle sternwheeler. They include Point Park Music Series Dinner Cruises, a Sunday Sundae, and the Blennerhassett Frolic and Evening Picnic as family or friend outing options this summer.

Point Park Music Series Dinner Cruise

Purchase your ticket and jump on board the Island Belle sternwheeler for a country-style dinner and boat ride on the Ohio River. Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park offers a dinner and cruise on the first Friday evenings of July 5, August 2, and September 6 in 2013. The Island Belle departs from Point Park in downtown Parkersburg at 6 p.m. and returns at 7:30 p.m. The evening continues with the Point Park Music Series concert presented by Downtown PKB.

The cost of the Dinner Cruise (includes river cruise & dinner) is $25 for adults and $20 for children ages 3-12. The dinner menu offers a choice of baked steak or pan fried chicken, with country-style green beans, baked potato, house salad, roll with butter, dessert, and bottled water or soft drink (vegetarian menu available upon request). Sunday-Sundae Cruise

This special evening event includes everyone’s favorite – ice cream – plus a sunset sternwheeler cruise around historic Blennerhassett Island. The cost for this three-hour adventure is $12 per person. The Island Belle will depart from Civitan Park in Belpre, Ohio, at 6:30 p.m. and return to the dock at 9:30 p.m. The sternwheeler will make a brief stop at the island for a hand-dipped vanilla ice cream sundae with your choice of toppings (chocolate, caramel, and strawberry) with nuts and whipped cream optional. After enjoying the cool treat, passengers will board the boat again for a relaxing trip around the island. Bring your binoculars and cameras to take pictures of the island and wildlife. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 304-420-4800 for tickets.

Blennerhassett Island Frolic and Evening Picnic

Blennerhassett Island Frolic and Evening Picnic is Saturday, July 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and is perfect for a family or friends group. The Island Belle departs for the island from Civitan Park, in Belpre, Ohio, at 6:30 p.m. The cost of the Island Frolic is $25 for adults and $20 for children ages 3-12, covering the round-trip sternwheeler ride to the island, the meal, a narrated wagon ride tour, and a guided tour of the Blennerhassett Mansion. A picnic-style meal will start around 7 p.m. and will include hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, fresh fruit cup, and beverage. Bicycles are available to ride at no charge. The island gift shop and snack area will be open throughout the evening. After an evening of frolicking on the island you will return to Civitan Park around 9:30 p.m.

Island Frolic tickets are sold at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History and must be reserved in advance by calling 304-420-4800. A golf cart with driver is available on the island to offer assistance.

About Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park
Blennerhassett Island is open daily, except Mondays. The island features the restored Blennerhassett Mansion, the Putnam-Houser House, horse drawn wagon rides, gift shop, bicycle rentals, guided tours and walking paths. The island park features an interpretative nature program on the first Saturday of July, August, September and October and begins at 2 p.m.
