 Families Invited to Celebrate Mother’s Day at a West Virginia State Park

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Moms, family and friends who want a good meal and interesting things to see and do this Mother’s Day Weekend can find them at West Virginia state parks and forests. Sunday, May 8, is Mother’s Day and many families take advantage of Sunday meal buffets at state park restaurants.

“Parks with lodges have restaurants and each food service manager makes special arrangements for this special Sunday of the year – Mother’s Day,” said Ken Caplinger, chief of West Virginia’s state parks system. “Rain or shine, restaurants are popular at our state parks on Mother’s Day.”

At Twin Falls the buffet includes catfish filets; Blackwater Falls includes salmon and seafood manicotti; Chief Logan Lodge restaurant is serving Marinated chicken; and those enjoying Pipestem will find Prime Rib of Beef in addition to other entrees, sides, desserts and salads. Reservations are available and recommended.

• Blackwater Falls (1 – 8 p.m.) Blackwater Falls also has a breakfast buffet every Sunday of the year.
• Cacapon Resort, (Noon – 6 p.m.)
• Canaan Valley Resort (Noon – 6 p.m.)
• Chief Logan (12:30 – 3:30 p.m.)
• Hawks Nest (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.)
• North Bend (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
• Pipestem Resort’s Bluestone Restaurant (11:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.)
• Stonewall Resort’s Stillwaters (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Reservations required.
• Twin Falls Resort (reservations available at 1 and 3 p.m.)
• Tygart Lake (brunch buffet 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

State parks with seasonal restaurant operations and serving meals on Mother’s Day also include Holly River State Park. Watoga State Park restaurant will open Memorial through Labor Day and The Last Run Restaurant at Cass Scenic Railroad opens Memorial Weekend.

Activities at North Bend State Park on Mother’s Day include music by JD Vaughn and Redd Brand from Noon – 2 p.m. in the lodge lobby. Hawks Nest State Park has an open house planned from 11a.m. – 3 p.m. which includes door prizes, lodge tours, children’s crafts and other family activities. Pipestem State Park has a walk to Pipestem Knob Lookout Tower beginning at 11 a.m. led by Naturalist Erin Cockerham. Twin Falls features a 2 p.m. Spring Walk led by Ken Vance that starts at the new Twin Falls Lodge.
