Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginia State Forester Randy Dye welcomes his counterparts from 20 northeastern states to Charleston this week for the 2011 Northeastern Area Association of State Foresters (NAASF) summer meeting.
Presentation topics focus on issues ranging from achieving healthy forests and climate change adaptation to economic challenges and public information. Although the majority of the group’s time will be spent indoors, Dye has allowed time for a field tour of a reclaimed surface mine operation in Boone County and a brief ATV adventure on the Hatfield-McCoy Trail.
“I am excited at the opportunity to show off the great state of West Virginia, and I am confident everyone will leave this meeting with a greater appreciation of the Mountain State and our people,” Dye said.
The 20 states within the NAASF include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Vermont. Washington, D.C. also is part of the NAASF.
In addition to representatives of the 20 northeastern states, officials from the National Association of State Foresters, U.S. Forest Service and West Virginia University also will attend.
The meeting convenes on Monday, July 11 at Charleston’s Embassy Suites and adjourns at noon on Thursday, July 14.
