CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today issued a proclamation ordering all State flags displayed at State facilities be lowered to half-staff from dawn to dusk on May 7, 2011, the day of services for House of Delegates Member Dale Martin of Poca, W.Va. Martin passed away unexpectedly earlier this week.
Delegate Dale Martin was first elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2000 to represent the thirteenth district comprised of Putnam, Jackson and Mason counties.
In the private sector, Martin was a Union Carbide retiree and was currently employed by ANCO. Formerly, Martin was a business representative for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and had previously worked for the West Virginia Nurses Association. Martin was also active in his Putnam County community serving as a coach and umpire.
"Over the past eleven years, I have gotten to know Dale very well. I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend and fellow statesman," said Gov. Tomblin. "Dale was an exceptional public servant, spearheading various pieces of legislation designed to improve the lives of all West Virginians. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Martin is survived by his wife, Helen and son, Joshua.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel in Poca, W.Va.
