Gov. Tomblin Announces Hazard Mitigation Grants

2/28/2011

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced $1.1 million in hazard mitigation grants. The grants help individuals and families whose homes have previously been flooded to relocate out of harm’s way.

“I have seen, firsthand, the positive results of this program in Logan County,” said Gov. Tomblin. “The grant funds provide financial assistance to the flood victims and reduce the impact of future flood disasters, in turn lessening the human suffering caused by such events.”

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program is administered by the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and supported by both state and federal funds. The program supports multiple mitigation activities resulting from severe storms and flooding in federally declared counties. The state of West Virginia administers numerous state and deferral flood relief programs, including the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
