Governor Tomblin Announces Plans for Second Annual Celebration of Diversity

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced the State's second annual Black History Month Celebration of Diversity will be held Friday, February 28 at 11 a.m. in the Great Hall of the Culture Center. The celebration will be held in conjunction with the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs, the Martin Luther King, Jr. State Holiday Commission, and the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
"Throughout our state, we celebrate the creativity and accomplishments of West Virginians whose lives and careers place them among the most notable of our country's African Americans," Gov. Tomblin said. "This celebration will provide West Virginians with an opportunity to recognize these men and women - together they have made great progress and have contributed greatly to West Virginia's rich heritage."
"While February is the month set aside to recognize contributions that African Americans have made, the reflections and recognitions should be a daily part of all our lives," Dr. Carolyn Stuart, executive director of the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs said. "We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate the lives of our greatest African American citizens and encourage our young people to achieve their fullest potential."
The program will include musical performances by the Almost Angels Quartet and a presentation by Reverend Francis M. Shearin. A reception will follow the event.
