Gov. Tomblin joins state and local leaders to officially open the 24th DMV Regional Office in Summersville.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today joined state Department of Transportation Cabinet Secretary Paul Mattox, Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Commissioner Steven Dale, retired DMV Commissioner Joe Miller, Summersville Mayor Robert Shafer and area legislators for a ribbon cutting ceremony, officially opening the Summersville DMV regional office.

In the late 1990's, a state plan was developed to provide every citizen reasonable access, no more than 25 miles "as the crow flies", to a DMV regional office. The plan was suspended due to state funding constraints. Last year, former DMV Commissioner Joe Miller, local legislators and leaders, worked with Gov. Tomblin to begin construction of the 24th DMV regional location in Summersville.

"Today, the state of West Virginia fulfills a promise made sixteen years ago, when we set out to provide all West Virginians with more convenient government services. License renewal, vehicle registration, driver's license testing, and more can now be completed at this location," Gov. Tomblin said."I'm pleased to say the people of Nicholas County will no longer have to travel to Flatwoods or Beckley to reach a DMV office. The Summersville DMV is open, offering quality customer service."

The $2.8 million 9,000 square foot office is located at 2 Armory Way in Summersville. Thirteen DMV employees will provide services to area residents during the operating hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
