Governor Tomblin Orders U.S. and State Flags to be Lowered
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today issued a proclamation ordering all U.S. and State flags be displayed at half-staff the entire day of Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. A presidential proclamation will be issued.
"It is important we honor our brave firefighters and the work they do each and every day to keep our communities safe," Gov. Tomblin said. "Today, we pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our citizens here in West Virginia and across the country. May we keep these men and women along with their families in our thoughts and prayers."
Eighty-one fallen firefighters will be honored at the service being held in Maryland, which will mark the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6 through Oct. 12, 2013.
