MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today joined Berkeley County Schools' superintendent, board of education, teachers, students and community members for the dedication ceremony of the county's first newly constructed high school since 1955. Spring Mills High School is a state-of-the-art facility with high-tech advancements for classroom learning. During his remarks, Gov. Tomblin encouraged the entire school family - students, parents, teachers, and administrators - to join the statewide effort to raise student achievement.

"As kids put on their backpacks-not only here at this beautiful new high school but across the Mountain State - you will see a number of major changes taking place in the classroom," Gov. Tomblin said. "For our high school students, we're working to making sure that they don't spend the first year of college spending their time, or money, on remedial classes. Now, all 11th grade students in West Virginia will be tested on what they know so we can help them where they are struggling."

Spring Mills High School is the fourth high school in Berkeley County and, to date, is the largest school constructed with School Building Authority financial support. The 250,000 square foot school has a student capacity of 1,500.
