CHARLESTON, W.Va. (April 4, 2014) - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and First Lady Joanne Jaeger Tomblin today honored the memory of the 29 miners who lost their lives, four years ago tomorrow, at the Upper Big Branch mine. This morning the governor took a moment to write a note in the book of thoughts and prayers at a small memorial set up in the Culture Center Great Hall. The First Lady is expected to visit the memorial later today.

"I encourage West Virginians to take a moment to visit the memorial in the Culture Center Great Hall-share your thoughts and prayers and pay tribute to the 29 miners and their families," Gov. Tomblin said. "Joanne and I also ask West Virginians to join us in a moment of silence, tomorrow at 3:01 p.m., to honor their memory."

"We are humbled by the hard work of coal miners across our state," First Lady Tomblin said. "As we pay tribute to the 29 miners who left this world far too soon, I ask that you keep their families and friends in your thoughts and prayers."

The memorial and book of thoughts and prayers will be located in the Culture Center Great Hall at the State Capitol through Saturday, April 5 at 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to write notes and sign the book of thoughts and prayers.
