CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today appointed Helen Martin to fulfill the remainder of her late husband's term in office as the West Virginia House of Delegates representative for the thirteenth district. The appointment is effective immediately.
"Helen has spent the past eleven years as a confidant to her late husband, Delegate Dale Martin, as he served the people of Putnam, Mason and Jackson Counties," Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said. "In addition, Helen has, and continues to, work within the community to provide better opportunities for her neighbors. Her passionate and diligent commitment to all West Virginians makes her an outstanding choice to complete the late delegate's unexpired term."
Delegate Dale Martin was first elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2000 to represent the thirteenth district. The Poca resident passed away unexpectedly earlier this month. The 13th Delegate District Democrat Executive Committee submitted Mrs. Martin's name along with two others as candidates to fulfill the unexpired term.
Mrs. Martin is a Poca High School graduate and homemaker. As a long standing member of the Poca community, Mrs. Martin has supported various community oriented projects and volunteers with Poca United Methodist Church's outreach programs.
Helen and her late husband, Dale, have one son, Josh Martin.
