CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced qualified West Virginia homeowners who are at risk of foreclosure can apply for the Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program (EHLP) now through July 22, 2011. EHLP is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program and is funded as part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
"Struggling homeowners may find the breathing room they seek through the Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program," Gov. Tomblin said. "I encourage interested homeowners to seek assistance quickly since the pre-applicant screening worksheet submission deadline is July 22nd."
EHLP was created to provide emergency mortgage assistance to homeowners who are temporarily and involuntarily unemployed or underemployed due to the economy or a medical condition and are at risk of foreclosure. The program can provide eligible homeowners with a zero-percent interest, forgivable loan that pays past-due mortgage payments as well as a portion of the homeowner's mortgage payment for up to 24 consecutive months, or up to $50,000, whichever comes first, and provided that certain eligibility requirements are maintained.
