Governor Issues Statement On WVCHIP Board Action
2/24/2011
CHARLESTON, W.Va –Today the West Virginia Children’s Health Insurance Program (WVCHIP) approved Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s request to expand health care coverage of uninsured children in West Virginia up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level.
“I applaud the WVCHIP board members for taking this action,” Gov. Tomblin said. “Ever since the legislature passed legislation allowing WVCHIP to implement expanded coverage up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level in 2006, I have eagerly looked forward to this day. With the WVCHIP Board vote, more working West Virginia families will be able to afford routine check-ups and exams beginning July 1, 2011. Having access to affordable health care should not be reserved for a few. We all get sick and we all must rely on doctors and nurses to heal us. I am pleased to know more of our youngest citizens will now be able to get the care they need and deserve and their families can obtain that care at an affordable price.”
