CHARLESTON, W.Va –Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today issued a proclamation ordering all state flags displayed at state facilities be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 in commemoration of the distinguished life and service of the late State Senator Ralph Dale Williams.
Sen. Williams proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Corporal in the United States Army Finance Corps. In 1970, he was elected to the State Senate as a representative of the Eleventh District where he served until 1986. Sen. Williams was an avid outdoorsman and active in civic and community affairs.
“We have lost a respected and committed public servant and devoted family man,” said Gov. Tomblin. “Sen. Williams was a distinguished member of the State Senate and an active member of his community. West Virginia will always be indebted to him for his unfailing service to our state and her people.”
Sen. Williams died on Feb. 7, 2011. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Evelyn M. Rookstool Williams, his four children, five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
