Governor Orders U.S. and State Flags to be Lowered in Observance of Memorial Day
5/27/2011
CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today issued a proclamation ordering all U.S. and State Flags be displayed at half-staff from dawn through noon, Monday, May 30, 2011, in recognition of Memorial Day.
“Memorial Day is one of our country’s most important holidays. It is a day for us to honor and remember our men and women in uniform– our family members, friends and predecessors who have served and continue to serve our country,” said Gov. Tomblin. “I encourage all West Virginians who have U.S. and State flags at their homes to display the flags at half-staff from dawn until noon on Monday.”
Gov. Tomblin also asks all West Virginians to unite in prayer for permanent peace beginning at 11:00 a.m. and to observe the
National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. EST on Memorial Day. The Governor requests all citizens to pause at that time and reflect on the service and sacrifice made by our military men and women.
