Governor Tomblin Issues Statement Regarding Today's Mine Accidents

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin this evening issued the following statement regarding two mine related accidents occurring at West Virginia mines today.
"Today, four families were shaken by the unexpected but always present danger associated with mining. While we strive to ensure the safety of our coal miners, accidents do occur," Gov. Tomblin said. "Joanne and I pray for the miners and their families. We ask all West Virginias to do the same."
Steve Odell, a coal miner in Greenbrier County, died due to injuries he suffered today at Alpha Natural Resources' White Buck mine in Pocahontas County. This afternoon, at CONSOL Energy's Robinson Run mine, located along the border of Harrison and Marion counties, three miners were injured. Two were transported to local hospitals while one was still unaccounted for late Friday.
