CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Governor Earl Ray Tomblin released over $15 million in Small Cities Block Grant funds for 23 critical infrastructure projects. Over $64 million in other federal, state, and local funds will be leveraged to complete these projects. These projects will serve approximately 27,300 citizens, of which over 15,800 will be low- and moderate-income persons or 58 percent of the overall population. Over 5,800 households in these communities will receive improved or new service as a result of these investments.
"I am committed to assisting the citizens of West Virginia in improving their quality of life and believe these projects, funded with Small Cities Block Grant funds, will assist us in this effort," Gov. Tomblin said. "In order to provide for economic development, a suitable living environment, and adequate housing there must be a strong local commitment to these types of community development projects that provide access to clean, adequate water and reliable sewer facilities. By working together we can promote future economic development and make West Virginia a better place to live."
The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides Small Cities Block Grant funds to the state. The Community Development Division of the West Virginia Development Office manages these funds.
BARBOUR COUNTY COMMISSION - $655,000
This $2.4 million project will extend water service to the Chestnut Ridge area of Barbour County. Approximately 52 households will benefit from this project as well as provide a reliable water source for the Chestnut Ridge Elementary School.
BARRACKVILLE, TOWN OF (MARION COUNTY) - $806,035
This $1 million project will assist with improvements to the town's sewer system. Approximately 312 households will benefit from this project that will eliminate combined system overflow issues.
BOONE COUNTY COMMISSION - $200,000
This $2.1 million project will extend water service to the Mud River Cox's Fork area of Boone County. Approximately 129 new households will benefit from this project.
BRAXTON COUNTY COMMISSION - $1,000,000
This $3.3 million project will extend water service to the Rosedale area of Braxton County. Approximately 50 new households will benefit from this project that will eliminate an ongoing health situation.
BROOKE COUNTY COMMISSION - $200,000
This $9.8 million project will construct a centralized sewer collection system in the Mahan Lane, Eldersville Road, Bruin Drive, and Louise areas of Brooke County. Approximately 550 households will benefit from this project that will eliminate enforcement issues.
DELBARTON, TOWN OF (MINGO COUNTY) - $1,100,000
This $15 million project will assist the Town of Delbarton in completing their Wastewater Collection and Treatment Replacement Project. Approximately 397 households, of which 76 are new customers, will benefit from this project that will eliminate health issues.
FAIRVIEW, TOWN OF (MARION COUNTY) - $1,000,000
This $4.8 million project will extend water service to approximately 130 new households in the Fairview Road and State Route 218 areas of Marion and Monongalia counties.
FAYETTE COUNTY COMMISSION - $200,000
This $1.4 million project will extend water service to approximately 31 households in the Boonesborough area of Fayette County.
FLEMINGTON, TOWN OF (TAYLOR COUNTY) - $200,000
This $4.7 million project will assist in making improvements to the Town of Flemington's sewer system. Approximately 181 households will benefit.
GILMER COUNTY COMMISSION - $200,000
This $3.2 million project will extend water service to approximately 104 households in the Cox's Mill area of Gilmer County.
HARMAN, TOWN OF (RANDOLPH COUNTY) - $1,300,000
This $4 million project will extend water service to approximately 200 additional households.
HINTON, CITY OF (SUMMERS COUNTY) - $1,100,000
This $4 million project will extend sewer service to approximately 82 households in the Brooks and Barksdale areas of Summers County.
IAEGER, TOWN OF (MCDOWELL COUNTY) - $200,000
This $6.4 million project will assist the Town of Iaeger in completing the design for Phase I of their regional sewer project. An adequate sewage collection system will be provided to benefit approximately 130 households.
LINCOLN COUNTY COMMISSION - $500,000
This $6.2 million project will assist the Lincoln County Commission in providing water service to approximately 240 households in the Big Harts area of Lincoln County.
LOGAN COUNTY COMMISSION - $1,100,000
This $4.9 million project will assist Logan County in completing Phase III-A of their wastewater project that will benefit approximately 292 households.
PARSONS, CITY OF (TUCKER COUNTY) - $350,000
This $1.5 million project will allow the City of Parsons to complete extend water service to the Moore and Porterwood areas of the city, as well as make improvements to the current system. Approximately 791 households who are currently experiencing 62% water loss will benefit.
PAW PAW, TOWN OF (MORGAN COUNTY) - $1,000,000
This $2.2 million project will assist the Town of Paw Paw in making improvements to their current sewer system that has received notice of violations from the Department of Environmental Protection. Approximately 175 households will benefit.
PENNSBORO, CITY OF (RITCHIE COUNTY) - $700,000
This $2.3 million project will assist the City of Pennsboro in completing Phase 2 of their Wastewater Treatment Plant and System Improvements Project. Approximately 485 households will benefit from this project that will also eliminate health issues.
PIEDMONT, CITY OF (MINERAL COUNTY) - $545,000
This project will assist the City of Piedmont in making improvements to their current water system correcting deterioration problems. Approximately 315 households will benefit.
SALEM, CITY OF (HARRISON COUNTY) - $1,300,000
This grant will allow the City of Salem to complete their Water Line Replacement Project. This system is currently out of compliance with the Bureau of Public Health. Approximately 714 households will benefit.
WAR, CITY OF (MCDOWELL COUNTY) - $200,000
This $3 million project will extend sewer service to approximately 60 households in the Shop Hollow and Centerville areas of the City of War.
WAYNE COUNTY COMMISSION - $1,100,000
This $6.7 million project will assist Wayne County in extending water service to approximately 343 additional households in the Route 152 area of Wayne County.
WETZEL COUNTY COMMISSION - $200,000
This $3.6 million project will extend water to approximately 94 households and eliminate a documented health situation.
