Governor Tomblin Releases Education Efficiency Audit of West Virginia's Primary and Secondary Education System

1/9/2012
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced the Education Efficiency Audit of West Virginia's Primary and Secondary Education System, conducted by Public Works LLC, resulted in more than 50 findings and recommendations which has the potential to improve student education.

"Eight months ago we sought out to discover how we could produce the best education for our students while receiving the highest return on our monetary investment," Gov. Tomblin said. "From the classroom to the state school board, this assessment shows us we have room for improvement. For the future of our children and our state, we must provide build a better learning and teaching environment in our classrooms and reduce administrative redundancies thereby directing financial savings back into the classroom. Every West Virginian concerned about our education system needs to take the opportunity to adequately review and discuss this report so we can begin to take advantage of its recommendations, and do so in a way that is right for West Virginia."

The auditors declared that West Virginia has one of the most highly regulated education systems in the country with many details linked to state code which results in little flexibility to modify policy and operations.

A copy of the full report can be found online on the governor's website directly at www.governor.wv.gov/initiatives/Pages/ImprovingWestVirginiasEducationSystem.aspx.

Public Works and its partner firm, MGT of America, conducted the audit and held community events as well as conducted surveys and other assessment methods to complete the audit of the education system on the state, regional and local levels.
