Governor Tomblin Signs SB 238

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Surrounded by veterans from all branches of the United States military, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin signed Senate Bill 238 into law this afternoon. The bill establishes the West Virginia Department of Veterans' Assistance in the Governor's Cabinet.
"Our state's heritage is one of service, both at home and abroad. We lead the nation in the number of military veterans, per capita, for all states in the Union," Gov. Tomblin said during this morning's "Salute to Veterans" event at the Culture Center. "On behalf of all West Virginians, I sign Senate Bill 238 as a show of our respect and appreciation for the tremendous contributions our veterans have made to our state and to our country. I am proud to say with my signature that our veterans will now take their rightful seat in the Governor's Cabinet so we can better pay tribute to the needs of our veterans."
Gov. Tomblin signed the bill as part of the "Salute to Veterans" that took place at 11:00 a.m. today at the Culture Center. SB 238 is effective as of July 1, 2011. For more information on the legislation, visit the West Virginia Legislature's website at
