Governor Tomblin sends letter requesting budget adjustment to House and Senate leadership
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin sent a letter of request to House and Senate leadership requesting budgetary adjustments to the governor's previously submitted budget document for fiscal year 2014.
"Since submitting my proposed budget, we've continued to look at our finances," Gov. Tomblin said. "I'm pleased to restore previously reduced funds to several education programs while maintaining our fiscal responsibility to the people of this great state."
Included was funding related to the passage of Senate Bill 359 - the Governor's Education Bill for the teacher loan assistance program and the "Preparation for Tomorrow" model vocational-technical educational programs. The adjustments also restored some of the 7.5 percent FY 2014 proposed budget reductions to the State Department of Education's budget.
The governor's budget adjustment provides more than $15 million of general revenue funds for various educational initiatives and other state government expenditures. To read the letter in its entirety click here
