CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will hold a series of dropout prevention events at local schools in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of completing a high school education.
Dropout Prevention Press Conference and Proclamation Presentation:
When: Tuesday, March 1st at 10:00 a.m.
Who: Governor Earl Ray Tomblin; Jorea Marple, West Virginia Superintendent of Schools; Brian Noland, High Education Policy Commission Chancellor; Dr. Shelley Stewart, Mattie C. Stewart Foundation Founder and Board President; Ashley Stender, Verizon Wireless Education Account Executive
Where: Capital High School, 1500 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, West Virginia
Note: Upon conclusion of the press conference, Governor Tomblin will speak with and listen to Capital High School students regarding the challenges to staying in school from the students’ perspective. This portion of the visit to Capital High School is not open to the press.

Where: South Charleston High School, 1 Eagle Way, South Charleston, West Virginia
Note: Dropout Prevention tools, including the InsideOut documentary, to be given to every school in the state will be discussed. The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation’s documentary InsideOut, a film of first-person stories as told by high school drop outs, will be viewed upon conclusion of the event. The Foundation’s Choice Bus will also be at the school for parents and educators to experience the message this bus will bring to students across West Virginia.
Governor Tours Choice Bus with Horace Mann Middle School Students:
When: March 2nd, at 8:30 a.m.
Who: Governor Earl Ray Tomblin; Horace Mann Middle School Students
Where: Horace Mann Middle School, 4300 MacCorkle Avenue S.E., Charleston, West Virginia
Note: Governor Tomblin will join the first class of students as they experience the Choice Bus message designed to encourage students to stay in school. The Choice Bus is half-classroom and half-prison cell.
