Charleston, W.Va. – September 16, 2010 – Probability not in your favor? Order of Operations have you foiled? Can’t dissect that word problem or remember the photosynthesis equation? Never fear, Homework Hotline is here!

Beginning Oct. 4 from 5:00-5:30 p.m. students can get live homework help from real math and science teachers by watching Homework Hotline on West Virginia PBS and WV PBS.HD. The program airs Monday through Thursday.

From solving for “n” to tips for remembering the water cycle, help is just a toll-free phone call away at 800-278-1290. Phones are answered beginning at 4 p.m. E-mail or web submitted questions are also accepted at homework@wvpubcast.org and through the submission form on the website.

Last year, Homework Hotline helped almost 1,150 students who called from almost corner of West Virginia and the bordering states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Virginia. Approximately 35% of the calls were answered live on air. The remaining students were helped through call-backs or reply e-mail.

“We try to help every student,” said Dennis Adkins, executive director of West Virginia Public Broadcasting. “The teachers who work with the show are very dedicated. They stay and answer questions long after the cameras are turned off.

“Homework Hotline has gone through many changes in its 18 years on the air,” Adkins said. “It’s a unique and free homework aid that no one else but public broadcasting can offer.”
