The West Virginia Irish Road Bowling Association announces the first West Virginia Irish Road Bowling Singles League. “This will be a pilot program for 2011, and can be expanded in future years,” according to organizer David Powell. Several of the events have been scheduled in West Virginia state parks.

The 2011 singles league will consist of 12 experienced road bowlers competing head to head in three-hand and four-hand scores (matches). Thirty-one matches will occur from May 1 until October 8, 2011, with each bowler competing in eight matches. Most of the singles matches will take place following the WVIRBA's regularly scheduled team events.

Singles matches will take place in Ireland, W.Va.; Buckhannon; Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley Resort, and Cacapon Resort state parks; the towns of Smithburg (near West Union) Philippi, Shepherdstown, Elkins and Kingwood; and at Holly River and Stonewall Resort state parks.

“At the end of the season, a seeded singles tournament will take place with all 12 bowlers competing. The championship match will be at the WVIRBA's final event at Stonewall Resort on November 6, 2011,” said Powell.

The West Virginia Irish Road Bowling Association has been holding team tournaments since 1995. The new 2011 Singles League will include experienced road bowlers representing many teams and all regions of West Virginia. Singles bowling will develop new talent and improve skills for West Virginia bowlers, who compete each year in the North American Region Finals against skilled Boston and New York players.
