DAVIS, W.Va. –
Canaan Valley Resort State Park is celebrating July 4th weekend with a variety of activities and events. With WINDFEST, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra concert, a golf scramble, and many other family-fun activities, the place to be is in Tucker County over the holiday weekend.
WINDFEST takes advantage of the Canaan Valley plateau, the perfect setting for
kite flying.
Wings Over Washington Kite Club offers
kite building workshops for all ages on
Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3. Visitors also can enjoy demonstrations of jumbo kite flying and stunt demonstrations, including a 20-foot lobster, 80-foot scuba diver, and a gigantic octopus. “Windfest brings out the kid in everyone,” said Rob Gilligan, state park superintendent. There is a small fee charged for kite building to cover material costs.
Celebration of the Arts featuring the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra is set for Sunday,
July 3 at 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Tucker County Alpine Festival Association and Canaan Valley Resort, the Wheeling Symphony music is “an event and setting that refreshes all senses,” said Gilligan. “Bring your family, lawn chairs, blankets, and prepare to enjoy a memorable afternoon” of symphonic music surrounded by the natural beauty of the outdoor amphitheater at the ski area.” There is no charge to enjoy the symphony concert.
A
Red, White and Blue Golf Scramble is scheduled for 1 p.m. on
July 4th. Golfers should register prior to 12:45 p.m. and teams will be drawn based on the number of entries. Prizes will be awarded for low team(s) and closets to the pin drives. The scramble rate is $30 for golf season passholders and $45 for non-passholders, per golfer.
