CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Two workshops are scheduled for Nov. 8-10, 2011, at the Wood Education and Resource Center (WERC) in Princeton, W.Va. A one-day workshop on Nov. 8 will focus on business strategies for manufacturers of cabinets, furniture and millwork. Topics will address products, pricing, competitors, inventory management and marketing targets. The fee for this workshop is $35 per person and lunch is included.
The second workshop, a two-day event from Nov. 9-10, will focus on profitably drying small quantities of lumber. Topics for this workshop include discussion of drying yard practices, different types of kilns, moisture relationships, drying schedules and avoiding stain and degradation. The fee for the two-day workshop is $75 per person and also includes lunch.

Harry Watt, a business improvement specialist in the Wood Products Extension office of North Carolina State University, will conduct the workshops. These workshops are part of a WERC grant that targets wood products companies in the Charleston, W.Va. area.
