North Bend State Park offers affordable winter travel options

12/21/2010

CAIRO, W.Va. – North Bend State Park has 10 discounted winter package rates and several low-cost special event weekend packages that may seem to be too good to be true, according to North Bend Sales Coordinator Kristi Steed.

“There’s no catch to our winter offers,” said Steed. “We try to be very specific in what we offer as rates or events and what is included. Then we smile when we have to argue with customers who just can’t believe what they get for their travel dollar or Christmas money or gift card in December through April.”

Located in Ritchie County between Cairo and Harrisville, North Bend State Park is a family oriented four-season park featuring a lodge, vacation cabins, campgrounds, full-service restaurant, 305-acre Lake for kayaking and fishing, and North Bend Rail Trail.

“If you ask 10 people what is one of your favorite state parks, North Bend will ring out more than once,” says Sissie Summers, programming administrator for the state park system. “It has a down-home feeling. As anyone who checks on special packages and rates will quickly see, North Bend takes every opportunity to introduce people to the park, its facilities and the area.”

Some of North Bend State Park’s winter offers include:

The Great Getaway

Through April 30, 2011, North Bend State Park offers the Great Getaway for two. It is a one night stay that includes dinner in the park restaurant for two and morning continental breakfast. Taxes and gratuities are included for a total cost of $99. The Great $99 Getaway is available any day during the week or weekends except Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Feb. 14. The park offers other options for Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Valentines Day.

Friends Night Out

Girlfriend weekends or friend retreats are popular and North Bend recognizes this trend. “We try to create rates that are under $100 and includes a meal, lodging and a special interest,” says Steed. “Shopping is a special interest.”

Friends Night Out includes a night at North Bend lodge, dinner and continental breakfast for two, and shopping coupons for Coldwater Creek Outlet, Fenton, and local Ritchie county merchants. Additional friends in the double occupancy rooms are $30 each. Customers electing to stay Friday or Saturday nights on this rate offer are upgraded to breakfast off the menu. The rate includes taxes and gratuities and excludes Dec. 24, 25, 31 and February 14.

Other Affordable Ideas

Christmas in the Country is a two day rate offer. “People ask if they can spend Christmas at the park lodge,’” said Steed. “Some guests think when the snow flies that the doors close, but we’re open year-round.” On Dec. 24 and 25, North Bend includes overnight lodging and a Christmas day buffet that features standing prime rib and turkey and all the accompaniments, plus Chef Ingel’s desserts. Buffet hours are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Christmas Day. The cost is $99 and includes taxes and gratuities.

North Bend offers anniversary packages, golf packages partnering with the local golf course in Harrisville, and “History Traveler” packages that feature visits to Blennerhassett Island and Prickett’s Fort state parks while staying at North Bend.

In addition to rate deals, the park also organizes and schedules special weekends. Upcoming weekends at North Bend State Park include: New Year’s Eve Celebration on Dec. 31; 2nd Annual Little Princess Ball on Jan. 8-9, Winter Wonder Weekend on Jan. 21-23; Sweetheart Weekend on Feb. 11-13; Women’s Getaway Weekend on March 25-27; a Murder Mystery Weekend on April 8-9, and additional special events continuing into the spring and summer of 2011.
