Pipestem State Park Features Holiday Weekend Activities, Nov. 9-11, 2013

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Veterans Day holiday creates a long weekend for many and Pipestem State Park in Summers County, W.Va. has a variety of activities to offer. Program coordinator Kim Hawkins encourages visitors to come to Pipestem this Veterans Day weekend to take advantage of special room rates, family activities, golf and restaurants.

Saturday Nov. 9 features a 10:00 a.m. car caravan to Brush Creek Falls. Visitors should meet at the Nature Center parking lot for a short drive and hike to Brush Creek Falls. Plan to spend about two hours in this natural setting. Then, a fun and easy fall craft activity is scheduled in the Dogwood Room at McKeever Lodge at 2:00 p.m.

Pipestem’s Nature Center is open Saturday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. with interpretative displays and again Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

A holiday rate for Sunday and Monday at McKeever Lodge coincides with the Veterans Appreciation discount at West Virginia State Parks. “The Sunday and Monday rate is extended to anyone to encourage golf, hiking and our restaurant,” says Hawkins. Room rates at Pipestem this weekend are half of standard rates for Nov. 10 and 11.

The horseback riding stables are open Tuesday – Sunday in November and during the winter months. An 18-hole disc golf course is on site and a radio-control racetrack for RC cars is open, weather permitting. Visitors can spend Sunday hiking and enjoying the late autumn views at the park’s overlooks.

The Bluestone Dining Room, Pipestem’s main restaurant, features a Sunday buffet from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. A special evening holiday buffet is planned on Nov. 10 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. The evening buffet price is $14.95 per person and includes BBQ beef brisket, pot roast, baked chicken and a variety of sides and salads.

A holiday golf deal is available at the 18-hole championship golf course on Monday Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day. The $23 golf rate is per player and includes an 18-hole round and shared cart. The Pipestem golf course is open daily from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in November. This holiday golf rate is also available at Twin Falls Resort State Park, near Mullens, W.Va.

A golf clinic by PGA professional Bob Biroscak is planned at 1:00 p.m. at the golf shop on Monday. This activity is open to the public free of charge. Biroscak and the golf staff at Pipestem encourages anyone interested in golf to attend. For non-golfers, an afternoon stroll is planned at 2:00 p.m. from the park headquarters.

“Visitors to Pipestem will find many ways to enjoy the Veterans Day holiday, and we hope they continue to come back the rest of the year,” says Hawkins.
