Preparations For State's 150th Birthday Celebration Underway at Capitol

6/17/2013 PREPARATIONS FOR STATE'S 150TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION UNDERWAY AT CAPITOL
Celebration begins at 1:50 p.m., Thursday, June 20th

Banners go up at the State Capitol in preparation for West Virginia's 150th Birthday Celebration.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced preparations for West Virginia's 150th birthday celebration at the State Capitol are underway. This morning the nine projectors that will be used to project "150 in 3-D: A Century and a Half of West Virginia Pride" onto the south face of the State Capitol were delivered and have been installed on scaffolding towers.
"The Capitol is buzzing with activity in preparation for the 150th birthday celebration. The arrival of the projectors is just one element of the preparation that is already underway," Gov. Tomblin said. "Weighing in at 210 pounds each and producing enough light to cover 10,000 square feet of the Capitol façade-these projectors are really something to see."
The 3-D films custom-crafted for projection onto the surfaces of iconic landmarks, without a screen, are a cutting-edge art form and have become a worldwide sensation. They have headlined marquee events such as the Queen's Jubilee, where a 3-D film was projected onto Buckingham Palace, and New Year's Eve in New York City, where the "screen" was the legendary Saks Fifth Avenue.
"150 in 3-D: A Century and a Half of West Virginia Pride" will be projected on the south face of the State Capitol, beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Each night they will conclude with a huge Zambelli fireworks show.
