Beckley, W.Va. - Officials with the West Virginia Division of Forestry will conduct a public tour of the Sweetwater Harvest Area at Cabwaylingo State Forest on Saturday, April 30, 2011. Participants will review the results of the Sweetwater Timber Harvest, and Forestry officials will discuss any concerns the public has about the harvest.
The harvest was conducted to increase wildlife habitat and to regenerate a new forest.
Those planning to attend should notify State Lands Manager Barbara Breshock by noon on Wednesday, April 27, so that she may plan for adequate transportation. Breshock can be reached by phone at 304.256.6775 or by email at

Attendees will meet at the Cabwaylingo State Forest office at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30. The tour will involve a 1 to 1.5 mile hike on uneven ground in the woods with no trails. There are some hills along the tour path and some roads are involved. Breshock recommends bringing substantial footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather, snacks and water.
