Row, Row, Row a Boat When Camping at Moncove Lake Sept. 6 - Oct. 31, 2011

6/6/2011
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Jesse and Iris Anderson are the parents of two youngsters. “We do a lot of skits, play games and sing lots of songs at our home,” says Jesse. So it is no surprise that Anderson, Superintendent at Moncove Lake State Park, has landed on a vacation idea based on a familiar round the family sings – “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” That’s why Moncove Lake has a camping offer that includes row boat use.

“Families that plan and take five or more days to camp should get a vacation perk,” says Anderson. “We have row boats to rent here at Moncove. This fall from Sept.6 – Oct. 31, for people camping for five or more consecutive days, we’ll include a row boat for use for the entire length of stay as part of the camping experience.” Moncove Lake is located at Gap Mills in Monroe County, West Virginia. Campers who pay the five-day campsite fee upon arrival will get the use of a row boat. Moncove Lake campsites are first-come, first-served, and the rowboat use will be handled the same way.

The park features a 48-site campground: 25 sites with electric hook-ups and 23 non-electric sites. There are two bathhouses, both equipped with flush toilets and hot water showers. All sites are suitable for either tent or trailer and feature picnic tables and grills. A dump station and centrally located water sources are available for camping units. Firewood and ice are available for purchase. Pet dogs and cats are welcome as long as they are kept on a leash and remain quiet.

In addition to the campground, Moncove has an outdoor swimming pool that is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Other features include hiking trails, a gift shop and fishing and boating on Moncove Lake. Watercraft are restricted on Moncove Lake to gas motors of 5 hp or less. A fishing license is required to fish. The lake is known for excellent bass, perch, crappie and walleye.

Campers interested in Moncove Lake’s ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’ offer may call 304-772-3450 or email moncovesp@wv.gov. Campsite rental fees at Moncove Lake are $23 for sites with electric and $20 for standard sites. The “Row” boat offer is not available with any discounted rates. Campsite fees include state sales tax. Sites are first-come, first-served.
