With more than 130 inches of natural snow at Canaan Valley Resort, ski season is being extended to March 23, according to Paul Redford, district administrator for West Virginia State Parks. This means skiers will have an additional three weeks to enjoy the slopes at this Tucker County destination.
“Slope conditions are excellent and the forecast for a longer winter is encouraging for winter sport enthusiasts,” Redford said.
The extension applies to downhill slopes, beginners ski area, tubing park and ice skating area. Canaan’s snow-making ability keeps the slopes at an 18-41 inch base, assuring the packed powder slopes remain downhill-ski friendly.
Canaan Valley Resort has 43 trails supported by two surface lifts and two magic carpets for transport up hill. A snow and trails report is posted daily at wwvstateparks.com
