CAIRO, W.Va. – A sweet weekend is planned at North Bend State Park for couples looking to get away the weekend of Feb. 11-13. “We’re known for including ‘the unexpected’ in our weekend packages and Valentine’s weekend is no exception,” said Kenneth Zebo, event coordinator. The Sweetheart Package includes activities, breakfast, dinner and dance, and some surprises.
“North Bend tries to include unexpected activities or amenities in our weekend packaged events,” said Zebo. Activities offered include an
old fashioned ice cream social Friday evening. After Saturday’s
breakfast buffet, Zebo will lead an interpretive
“Love Bird” hike at 9 a.m. near the lodge to look for birds wintering in West Virginia.
Tours to local art and craft shops are planned in the afternoon with
“Chocolates on the Square” and a
North Bend Sweetheart game scheduled at 4 p.m.
North Bend’s
Sweetheart Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 12, will be prepared by Chef Jim Ingel. It will be served buffet style and feature hand-carved prime rib and whole turkey with plenty of sides, and pies and cakes for dessert. Guests may choose one of two dinner seating times.
The
Sweetheart Dance begins at 9 p.m. Saturday, with music provided by Stepping Stone. This family band plays a variety of dance music and takes requests for dance songs. During the dance, a variety of refreshments will include hot finger foods, snacks, and drinks.
Two weekend package options are available and advanced reservations are required. Discounted rates are extended to those arriving early or extending their weekend.
- The “Honey Package” includes two nights’ accommodations at North Bend Lodge (Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12), Friday night ice cream sundae bar, Saturday morning breakfast buffet, Saturday night dinner, Sweetheart Dance and refreshments for two, in addition to all activities and crafts. The cost per couple is $290 inclusive.
- The “Darling Package” includes Saturday night dinner, Sweetheart Dance, and refreshments. Accommodations and other activities are not included. The Darling Package cost per couple is $100.
North Bend State Park is located in Ritchie County, less than a half an hour drive after exiting U.S. Rt. 50 at either Cairo or Ellenboro. North Bend is a family-oriented park with genuine guest service. The lodge features 29-rooms and full-service restaurant. There are nine vacation cabins, campgrounds, hiking trails, and the North Bend Rail Trail and North Bend Lake for outdoor interests.
