Charleston, W.Va. - Recent flood damage in southern West Virginia has created a significant demand for emergency housing for persons who have been displaced.
In an effort to assist victims of flood damage in obtaining temporary housing more rapidly, the West Virginia Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards Board will allow temporary installations not conforming to the legal standards if the structure meets the following criteria:
1) You have applied for aid as a flood victim during the time period of the flood with the Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA);
2) You understand that your home must be reinstalled in compliance with the legal standards by a licensed installer;
3) The temporary installation is safe and reasonably designed to ensure the structural integrity of the home.
The West Virginia Division of Labor advises flood victims to use licensed installers when installing temporary homes. Improper installations can seriously damage the home.
The State of West Virginia regulates the construction and installation of manufactured homes installed in West Virginia. For more information, contact the West Virginia Division of Labor’s Manufactured Housing Office at 304-558-7890.
