 Training to help communities build partnerships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Communities can learn how to build partnerships and connect with knowledgeable resources in training sessions to be held in Morgantown, Nov. 8 through 10. The three-day event is organized by Main Street West Virginia and West Virginia ON TRAC.

Training is free to Main Street West Virginia and ON TRAC members. For non-members, a fee of $50 is due at time of registration. The agenda and description of training topics can be viewed online at www.wvmainstreet.org/ONTRAC.

The session begins on Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. with a networking reception at Arts Monongahela, 201 High Street, Suite 3, Morgantown.

On Nov. 9, sessions will feature healthy lifestyle resources; tax credit and grants programs for historic preservation projects; putting partnerships and resources to work; and tours of revitalized properties in Morgantown.

On Nov. 10, the welcoming address will be given by Mary Jo Thompson, director, Community Development, West Virginia Development Office. The closing remarks for the training event will be delivered by Cabinet Secretary Keith Burdette, West Virginia Department of Commerce.

The Nov. 10 sessions include case studies of Martinsburg’s “Bike Night” and Morgantown’s Web applications; rural economic development programs; brownfield redevelopment; and grants for transportation enhancements, recreational trails and safe routes to schools.

The Main Street West Virginia and West Virginia ON TRAC programs provide technical services, such as design assistance and continuous training of board/committee members and program managers in the Main Street Four-Point Approach®. Main Street West Virginia also serves as a liaison between various state agencies and organization with designated communities. Currently there are 12 accredited Main Street Communities and 16 ON TRAC Communities in West Virginia.
