SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The expansion of Twin Falls State Park lodge in Wyoming County isn't complete, “but we're close,” said Scott Durham, park superintendent.
The 27-room lodge expansion began in 2009. The additional rooms and structural changes are complete, but an opening date for the new rooms will have to wait for the arrival of case goods and window treatments for the finishing touches.
"Unless we start renting floor space and offer the empty rooms as upscale camping, we'll just have to have patience and wait on the furniture and drapery arrival," said Durham.
The park isn't taking reservations yet for rooms in the Cardinal wing of Twin Falls Lodge. The original rooms are still in high demand and that section of the lodge will become the Monarch Wing.
"Renovation and expansion takes time," says Durham. "As a staff, we're extremely proud of the progress and how our guests have responded with their patronage throughout the process. We are as eager as our guests to have the new rooms open. They should check the park website or call the park from time to time to find out when we will begin accepting reservations for the new rooms.”
Twin Falls State Park is a 4,000 acre public area with vacation cabins, campground, 18-hole golf course, restaurant, and extensive hiking and biking trails. The park is known for its two falls and the Pioneer Farm as scenic and photographic features. The park is open year-round.
The Twin Falls lodge project was a feature story in the August 2010 issue Wonderful West Virginia magazine, which recounted the improvements made over the 40-year history of Twin Falls.
An open house was hosted by the Southern West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau in early October to familiarize area attraction operators, residents and business owners of what visitors to the region can expect to find.
“What we know is that Twin Falls, and all state parks, are calling cards to visit West Virginia, and Twin Falls visitors return time and again and frequent our local business and area attractions,” said Durham. “For Wyoming County and southern West Virginia, the area recognition and resulting economic return from this expansion can be a tremendous asset for the whole region."
The original lodge, cabins and campground at Twin Falls are open. The park restaurant hours are 6:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily. For State Park information, visit online at www.wvstateparks.com.
