West Virginia chefs Joe Re and Corbin Tonelli are working with southern United States food companies during SIAL Canada, one of the world’s largest trade shows for the food industry.
Re and Tonelli are helping 10 companies sponsored by the Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA) showcase their products with serving suggestions and by using them in demonstrations during the show.
West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass was one of the founding members of SUSTA.
“SUSTA has been helping agriculture-based companies in the southern U.S. diversify their marketing efforts for more than 35 years,” said Douglass. “And I’m proud of the WVDA’s substantial involvement over those years. Staff members have been instrumental in the success of the organization, and have spearheaded international trade missions.”
SUSTA is a non-profit trade development association composed of the Departments of Agriculture of 15 southern states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Since 1973, its programs and services have assisted exporters of high-value food and agricultural products. SUSTA is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), its member states and private companies.
SIAL Canada boasts 700 exhibitors, 200,000 square feet of exhibit space and 13,000 attendees at its yearly event.
