CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia’s exports in 2010 reached a record level $6.4 billion. The state’s all-time-high performance exceeded its previous record of $5.6 billion, set in 2008.
West Virginia’s 2010 exports grew by 33 percent over last year, outstripping the U.S. export growth rate of 21 percent. The Mountain State’s export growth has outpaced the national performance for each of the last four years.
“International sales are vital for companies to grow and succeed today. West Virginia is committed to assisting the state’s small and medium-sized West Virginia companies as they navigate the global marketplace,” said Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin. “This success is the result of the teamwork among our state agencies, businesses and work force.”
West Virginia’s top trading partners as measured in dollars in 2010 were, in order, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Netherlands, China, India, Belgium, United Kingdom, Italy and Ukraine.
The International Division of the West Virginia Development Office (WVDO) facilitates international trade development by providing consulting and helping build international business relationships.
