CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Whether you’re a resident looking for a weekend escape or an out-of-state guest planning a vacation, preparation for your West Virginia getaway can be easier with this year’s travel guide.
The 2010 Official State Travel Guide is a 224-page publication that highlights many of West Virginia’s attractions and destinations families and visitors travel to throughout the year.
“West Virginia is a fantastic vacation destination no matter what season, and no matter what type of getaway you’re seeking,” said Gov. Joe Manchin. “From family fun to wild outdoor adventure, this travel guide will help you plan your trip and find great new ways to experience the Mountain State.”
This year’s travel guide features attractions and events in each of the state’s nine travel regions and includes listings for accommodations, campgrounds, restaurants, parks, shops, galleries, museums and other points of interest. The guide also includes an events section that spotlights fairs, festivals, performances, historical re-enactments and more.
Featured stories are written by professional travel writers who offer personal experiences of the state’s culture and history.
“Using the travel guide to plan a great vacation is simple,” said Tourism Commissioner Betty Carver. “Travel regions are color-coded and showcase the best our state has to offer. Sections also include valuable tools and information that make scheduling a getaway in West Virginia convenient and easy.”
The guide was published in cooperation with Miles Media Inc., which has produced the Official State Travel Guide since 2004. An online version of the entire travel guide will be posted on the state's official travel site, www.wvtourism.com, by Feb. 25, 2010.
The Division of Tourism distributes free travel guides to thousands of callers, Web site visitors and West Virginia Welcome Center travelers across the state. It also distributes copies at travel shows across the country and abroad.
