CAIRO, W.Va. – Winter Wonder Weekend, scheduled for Jan. 21-23, 2011, at North Bend State Park, includes nature programs, hikes, games, contests, and all things “genuine” in West Virginia. An annual event, Winter Wonder Weekend invites and introduces attendees to indoor and outdoor fun.
“Whether there are snow or mild temperatures, we always have a great time,” according to Emily Fleming, weekend hostess. This year’s theme, “Genuine West Virginia,” focuses on people, places and activities you find in the mountain state.
Special guests this year include West Virginia University’s 61st Mountaineer Mascot, Brock Burwell – a senior from Harrisville, W.Va., and a “Genuine West Virginia, Wild and Wonderful” presentation by noted naturalist and author Bill Beatty of Wellsburg, W.Va. The outdoor winter sports include sleigh rides, a snowman building contest and other old time activities (weather permitting). Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo depicting the theme “Genuine West Virginia.” Winners will be announced on Saturday night. Afternoon “to town” trips include stops at Berdine’s Five and Dime, Main Street Artisan Shop and Clif’s Car Museum. A sharing of crafts is a traditional part of Winter Wonder Weekend.
