 Women in Agriculture Nomination Deadline Rapidly Approaching

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) is accepting nominations for its new “Women in Agriculture” recognition program, which is intended to draw attention to the contributions women have made to agriculture in the Mountain State. Applications are due no later than July 10, 2011.

“This honor is bestowed on those West Virginia women who have made outstanding, direct contributions to agriculture and forestry industries through public service and/or leadership positions at the local, state and national levels,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass.

Nomination forms are available from WVDA Marketing Specialist Tracy Fitzsimmons by calling 304-558-2210, e-mailing tfitzsimmons@wvda.us, or by visiting www.wvagriculture.org. Nominations should also include five photos of the women engaged in their respective enterprises.

The selected women will be featured in displays in the Gus R Douglass Agricultural Annex at the 2011 State Fair of West Virginia August 12-20.

The 2010 Women in Agriculture honorees were: Marge Burke, Jenny Carder, Janet L. Fisher, Herma Johnson, Ruth Linton, Katy Orr, Marjory Ours and Jean Smith.
