Dunbar, WV - The West Virginia State Agency for Surplus Property (WVSASP) is implementing two new and easier ways for the public to acquire surplus property that is no longer needed within state government. Through direct retail sales and utilizing eBay, the public may now benefit beyond the state auction process.
Effective June 5, 2008, H.B. 4664 authorized the WVSASP to sell state surplus property directly to the public at posted prices. Prior to this change, general public customers were required to submit a sealed bid and wait until the following week to see if their bid was successful, resulting in, at least, two trips to WVSASP in order to acquire an item. The general public may now purchase items at WVSASP's location at 2700 Charles Avenue in Dunbar, WV, the day a visit is made, similar to a retail business.
The types of property available vary, including office equipment and furniture, lawn care equipment, computers and vehicles. "Basically, anything that a state agency may use will eventually become available at WVSASP," said Surplus Property Manager Ken Frye. Surplus Property accepts personal checks, money orders, MasterCard and Visa for general public sales; cash is not accepted.
Another innovative way for the public to acquire state surplus property is through eBay. WVSASP has transitioned to selling state property on the Internet. The public may visit the following Web site at http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZwvsurplusproperty to view all items available through this electronic means. Items listed on this site are not available through the direct sales process at the WVSASP Dunbar location. Interested individuals may bid on property through the eBay process or 'buy it now' at an established price.
